About St Mary’s, Ramelton
St Mary’s, Ramelton was built in 1890. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave, built of squared sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a marble altar and window tracery.
History
This was apparently the first Catholic church in Ramelton since the Plantation around 1610. Before it opened, local Catholics worshipped at the chapel at Kilcreen or Killycrea, which remained extant in 1834 and went out of use in the 1930s.
