About St Mary’s, Castleblayney

St Mary's, Castleblayney incorporates fabric from a church built between 1805 and 1814 and was substantially rebuilt between 1851 and 1856.

The building

The church has a cruciform plan with a six-bay nave, three bays of which belong to an extension completed in 1929. Gabled transepts, an eastern apse and chapels project from the rendered main body, which is covered by pitched slate roofs.

Notable features

Pointed windows contain stained glass, including a traceried three-light window in the apse and quatrefoil windows in the gables. The interior includes an open scissors-truss timber roof, a marble altar, altar rails and pulpit, carved timber seating and a gallery at the west end.
