About St. Mary & St. John - Ballincollig
St. Mary & St. John - Ballincollig was built around 1865 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan with a four-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery. It was designed by George Goldie.
History
Barry McMullen built the church. The Right Rev. Dr. Delany, Bishop of Cork, laid its foundation stone in 1865 on a site donated by Thomas Wise, whose nearby quarry also supplied the limestone used for the building.
