About St. Mary
St. Mary dates from 1865 and is built in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan, built of limestone. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and a marble altar.
Notable people
The church was designed by Richard Pierce and finished by architect W.G. Murray. Murray was influenced by the Irish churches of A.W.N. Pugin and favoured Pugin's Irish simplicity. The building is located at the west end of the town at the top of the hill.
