About St Manchan’s Church, Boher
St Manchan’s Church, Boher was built around 1860. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a tower and stained-glass windows.
Notable features
The church contains a twelfth-century shrine of Saint Manchin, displayed in the south transept. This shrine is an example of early Irish decorative metalwork. The stained glass windows in the chancel and transepts were commissioned from the studio of Harry Clarke in 1930 at a cost of £330. The churchyard is accessed through cast-iron double gates supported by limestone piers.
