About St. Kevin
St. Kevin was built between 1868 and 1872. It has a cruciform plan with a five-bay nave, built of squared granite under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and pinnacles.
The building
Designed by Pugin and Ashlin following an architectural competition, the church features snecked rusticated granite walls with Portland stone dressings. The interior includes a barrel-vaulted nave, triple-arch confessionals, and a gallery housing a mahogany organ. Stained glass windows were commissioned over three decades from the Earley family, while the ornate pews are probably by Hardman & Co.
