About St. John the Baptist Church, Powerstown
St. John the Baptist Church, Powerstown dates from 1810. It has a cruciform plan with a two-bay nave and pebbledashed walls under a pitched artificial slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
History
Extensions added in 1992 include catslide-roofed work at the north-east re-entrant corner and an octagonal belltower with a lantern at the west entrance end. The church’s position on a townland boundary was said to broaden access for local Catholics.
