About St. John the Baptist Church, Ovens
St. John the Baptist Church, Ovens dates from 1831. It has a T-shaped plan with a three-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and a marble altar.

History
The parish of Ovens, from the Irish na hUamhanna, meaning "caves", is the union of the ancient parishes of Athnowen, Desertmore and Aglish. Athnowen was the original name of the parish and means the ford of the river, taken from the nearby river Bride.
