About St. Cuimin Church, Barna
St. Cuimin Church, Barna was built in 1877. It has a simple single-cell form under a pitched tiled roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and a marble altar.
The building
St Cuimin Church in Barna, Co. Clare, was originally built in 1877 and reconstructed in 1979 by architect T.P. Sheahan and builder T. Grace. The detached single-cell structure features a three-bay nave with chancel and sacristy extensions, set back from the road at Barna crossroads. Its entrance gable is distinguished by snecked punch-dressed sandstone, angle buttresses, and pointed-arched niches containing limestone water fonts. The building has a pitched tiled roof with terracotta ridge cresting and a south-facing bellcote housing a cast-iron bell and stone cross finial. Interior elements include a scissor truss ceiling, marble altar furniture, and Stations of the Cross on the nave walls. A limestone plaque in the porch commemorates the 1979 reconstruction and the visit of Pope John Paul II to Ireland.
