About St. Cronan’s, Roscrea
St. Cronan’s, Roscrea was built around 1855. It has a cruciform plan with a six-bay nave, built of squared sandstone under a pitched artificial slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, crenellated parapets and buttressed walls.
The building
St Cronan’s is a freestanding cruciform-plan Catholic church built c.1855. It comprises a six-bay nave with side aisles, two-bay transepts, and a chancel with a bow-plan apse. The west front features a central porch flanked by polygonal turrets with spirelets. Snecked sandstone walls are detailed with string courses, modillions, and buttresses. The interior includes an arcade of polygonal columns and a decorative cast iron roof structure.
