About Roscrea Methodist Church

Roscrea Methodist Church dates from 1902. It has a cruciform plan, built of squared limestone under a pitched artificial slate roof. Notable features include pinnacles and buttressed walls.

The building

This freestanding gable-fronted church features a three-bay projecting bow-plan porch with a single-storey advanced gable-fronted entrance. A two-bay vestry with an advanced entrance front is located to the northwest, alongside a single-bay hall at right angles to the northwest elevation. The structure includes snecked rusticated limestone walls with a dressed limestone date stone, cut-stone buttresses, and pinnacles. Chamfered tripled round-headed windows adorn the porch, while square-headed and pointed-arch windows appear on the upper front and side elevations. The entrance comprises a pointed-arch door opening with a replacement timber battened double-leaf door, over-light, and stone steps. The front garden is enclosed by decorative cast-iron gates and railings.
