About St. Catherine's Church, Aughrim
St. Catherine's Church, Aughrim dates from 1860. It has a four-bay nave, built of squared stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a two-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
The building
The site contains grave markers and is enclosed by cut-stone boundary walls. From the road, a cast-iron staircase climbs the sloping elevated site to the entrance, while the southern gateway has cut-stone square-profile piers with pointed caps and railings.
