About St. Brigid, Ballycallan
St. Brigid, Ballycallan was built between 1847 and 1848. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave, built of squared stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets.
The building
Attributed to the school of Thomas Cobden, the structure is constructed from Co. Kilkenny limestone and features an attached sacristy built in 1848. The interior was completed c.1875 and contains a Classical-style reredos, a timber pipe organ, and stained glass panels recalling the Harry Clark Studios. A flight of thirty limestone steps leads to the entrance front.
