About St. Augustine's Church, Abbeyside
St. Augustine's Church, Abbeyside was built in 1832. It has a simple single-cell form, built of rubble stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a four-stage tower, stained-glass windows and an internal gallery.
History
The church incorporates surviving fabric from an Augustinian priory dating from the thirteenth century. George Coppinger Ashlin, who lived from 1837 to 1921, carried out improvements in the late nineteenth century.
