About St Agatha’s Church, Clar

St Agatha’s Church, Clar was built between 1869 and 1871. It has a cruciform plan with a four-bay nave, built of rubble stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include an internal gallery, a marble altar and window tracery.

History

The church was built by the Dublin practice O’Neill and Byrne, comprising John O’Neill and William Henry Byrne. It replaced an earlier T-plan chapel on or close to the same site, shown on the first-edition Ordnance Survey map of about 1836.
