About St. Molleran's
St. Molleran's was built in 1336. It has a four-bay nave, built of rubble sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows, crenellated parapets and window tracery.
History
Originally built in 1336 as a Franciscan friary, the church was rebuilt in 1827, incorporating medieval fabric especially to the north and west elevations. The reconstruction occurred amidst local controversy when a Protestant Rector apparently threatened to seize the building prior to Catholic Emancipation. The structure retains high-quality medieval carved elements, including a re-used head on a buttress and roll mouldings at the entrance.
