About Saint Michael's Tipperary
Saint Michael's Tipperary was built in 1859. It has a cruciform plan with a five-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage bell tower with a spire, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and carved Stations of the Cross.
The building
A mortuary chapel was added c.1915, with additions attributed to George Ashlin. The interior features an ornate carved marble reredos with figure sculpture and a pointed segmental arcade to the organ gallery on polished granite columns. The nave ceiling is boarded timber supported on cut stone corbels, while the site entrance includes octagonal limestone piers with decorative cast-iron railings.
