About St Brendan
St Brendan was built between 1798 and 1801. It has a cruciform plan with a two-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and lancet windows.
Notable people
The church was erected under the aegis of Reverend John Cassin (1740-1806). Its construction coincided with the gradual dismantling of the Penal Laws in anticipation of the Roman Catholic Relief Act of 1829. The building reflects the ecclesiastical heritage of Co. Kilkenny during this period of change.
