About Sacred Heart Church, Carrickroe
Sacred Heart Church, Carrickroe was built in 1823. It has a cruciform plan with a two-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar. The church stands in its own graveyard.
History
William Hague Jr enlarged the church in 1885–88, adding work that includes the chancel and porches; a shield-shaped date stone on the chancel gable is inscribed 1886. The interior was almost completely refurbished around 1980, while the original canted timber ceiling was retained.
