About Our Lady of the Assumption
Our Lady of the Assumption dates from 1952. It has a six-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a two-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and mosaic work.
The building
The church features a freestanding gable-fronted design with wetdashed rendered walls and a pitched slate roof topped by a concrete cross finial. A two-stage tower at the west end has a pyramidal copper roof and a niche containing a statue of the Virgin Mary. The entrance is marked by a cantilevered concrete canopy and a decorative mosaic overdoor dated 1952. Flat-roofed confessional projections and a single-storey sacristy extend from the nave, while the interior includes a gallery over a rendered screen and marble altar furniture.
