About Our Lady of Lourdes, Silvermines
Our Lady of Lourdes, Silvermines was built around 1975. It has a cruciform plan with a six-bay nave, built of sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows and lancet windows.
The building
Traditional elements such as transepts, belfry, apse and nave are expressed with a Modernist treatment. Inside, concrete ribs structure the space and repeat the pointed profile associated with earlier church architecture.
