About Mothel (Coolcullen)
Mothel (Coolcullen) was built in 1792. It has a simple single-cell form, built of rubble stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows and crenellated parapets.
The building
This Board of First Fruits Church of Ireland church was built in 1792 and renovated in 1814, when a three-stage entrance tower was added to the west. The structure features random rubble stone walls, probably originally rendered, with cut-stone surrounds to gables and squared rubble stone advanced corner piers to the tower. Interior elements include timber pews, a cut-stone wall monument, and a raised chancel with a Gothic-style timber panelled lectern on an octagonal plan.
