About Milltown St Philip

Milltown St Philip is a Church of Ireland church in Milltown, County Dublin. It is one of the churches in the parish of Sandford (Ranelagh), in the Diocese of Dublin & Glendalough.

Notable features

The organ of St Philip's was completed in February 1939, replacing a Telford organ built in 1896; the parish recorded in 2016 that the Telford instrument was by then in All Saints' Church, Grangegorman. The 1939 organ used theatre organ technology and reports at the time considered it state of the art. Its experimental electric action proved unreliable and difficult to repair, and in 2016 the Select Vestry sought tenders for a complete renovation.

By March 2018 the 1939 organ had been removed and the small transept that housed it redecorated. A replacement organ was then being built, with a case narrower and slightly deeper than the old one, and a console standing on the floor in front of it in the position formerly occupied by the choir stalls. In March 2019 the parish reported that the work was nearing completion.
