About Killiney Holy Trinity
Killiney Holy Trinity is a Church of Ireland church in Killiney, County Dublin. It is in the Diocese of Dublin & Glendalough.
History
Holy Trinity answered the need for a second church at Killiney following the extension of the railway to Bray. Robert Warren gave the site and contributed largely towards the funding of the building, which was designed by Sandham Symes and opened as a Trustee church on 15 May 1859. The Rev'd Joseph Bell was licensed to perform baptisms but not marriages, and the church acquired parochial status in 1893. During a rectorship that began in 1956 the rectory was moved to the northerly side of the Hill, and the Carry Hall, built on land given by the Kirwan family, was opened in 1958.
The first woman member of the Select Vestry was elected in 1926, though no woman held office until 1972, and the first woman churchwarden was appointed in 1980.
Notable features
The window "The Angel of Peace and Hope", by Harry Clarke and dated 1918, was presented by Mrs Clifford Lloyd. The west window, known as the McGoldrick window, depicts the Annunciation and the Crucifixion. The font dates from 1866, by which time the organ was in place, the lectern from 1877 and the pulpit from 1906. A cross was placed on the altar in 1970.
The Garden of Remembrance in the grounds of the church, opened in 1995, is used for the interment of the ashes of parishioners and is maintained in keeping with the neighbouring Victoria Park.
