About Holy Cross Church, Killea
Holy Cross Church, Killea was built in 1817. It has a cruciform plan and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
The building
The detached Catholic church was constructed in 1817 and renovated c.1920, when projecting porches and a canted infill bay were added. Its interior features mosaic-tiled floors, carved timber pews, and a first-floor gallery on cast-iron pillars. The interior scheme apparently remained substantially unaltered following the Second Vatican Council, and the grounds contain a graveyard with cut-stone markers from c.1820.
