About Glynn St John
Glynn St John is a Church of Ireland church in Glynn, County Antrim. It is one of the churches in the parish of Larne & Inver St Cedma (Larne), in the Diocese of Connor.
History
In 1838 the parish of Glynn was separated from Larne and Inver and made an independent parish. Francis Willet Watterson, a clergyman living in the parish, was appointed to the living, and services were held in a temporary building in the village of Glynn.
The present church was built in 1840 to accommodate 210 people, at an estimated cost of £471 3s 10d. It was completely refurbished in 2001.
The building
The church was designed by Sir Charles Lanyon and built of black stone, with a small bell tower at one end. It stands beside the Glynn River, approached by a wide stone lane leading up from the Main Road. Within the graveyard are the ruins of the medieval church.
