About Glengourna Church

Glengourna Church was built around 1835. It has a T-shaped plan with a two-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows.

The building

This freestanding Roman Catholic church faces west and includes single-bay transepts with a lean-to sacristy on the south end of the east elevation. The interior features timber panelled galleries supported on painted round-profile columns, while carved timber pilasters flank the stained-glass windows in the altar area. An elaborate tombstone stands to the west, and the site is bounded by coursed sandstone walls with decorative piers and cast-iron gates.
