Donanaughta St John Baptist (Eyrecourt) dates from 1867. It has a four-bay nave, built of limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a two-stage tower, stained-glass windows, a bellcote and buttressed walls. The church stands in its own graveyard.
The building
Designed by William Martin, this Gothic Revival church features an asymmetrical form with gabled false transepts that rise above the eaves without projecting beyond the nave. The interior is unusual for Ireland, with red brick walls accented by yellow and black polychrome banding. It contains a carved marble pulpit, stone font, and numerous plaques commemorating the Eyre family.
