About Clones St Tighernach
Clones St Tighernach was built between 1822 and 1825 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan, built of rubble stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets.
History
Built 1822-5, probably by John Bowden or William Farrell, it replaced a 1641 Plantation church rebuilt in 1696. Extended 1857-8 as a pro-cathedral by Alexander Hardy to designs by Joseph Welland, and renovated in 1881. A date-stone of 1696 remains in the boundary wall.
