About Clondalkin St John
Clondalkin St John was built in 1789. It has a four-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and an open timber roof.
The building
This Church of Ireland church stands on the site of an old monastery, with medieval remains apparently still present in the surrounding graveyard. A single-storey vestry was added to the north of the tower around 1830. The grounds also contain a brick barrel-vaulted tomb to the immediate west of the church, enclosed by stone rubble boundary walls.
