About Church of the Sacred Heart, Fairymount
Church of the Sacred Heart, Fairymount was built in 1876 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a single-cell plan with a four-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
The building
Two pointed-arched doorways flank the central buttress on the front elevation, each with tooled chamfered-limestone surrounds and timber-battened doors. The nave ends in an apse retaining its original high altar and communion rails, beneath a replacement ceiling.
