About Church Of The Sacred Heart, Clonbulloge

Church Of The Sacred Heart, Clonbulloge was built around 1820. It has a cruciform plan with a seven-bay nave and pebbledashed walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, mosaic work and lancet windows.

The building

The church features a west entrance with a pointed-arched rendered canopy, overlight and mosaic above double timber doors. The nave has sprocketed eaves and lancet windows with painted sills, while the eastern end includes pointed-arched windows with limestone block-and-start surrounds. The churchyard is bounded by a pebbledashed wall with ruled-and-lined rendered gate piers having angel finials and cast-iron gates, containing statues and graves of former parish priests.
