About Church of the Nativity, Ballynacargy
Church of the Nativity, Ballynacargy was built around 1830. The church has rendered walls under a pitched artificial slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows, a bellcote and window tracery.
The building
The freestanding Roman Catholic church follows a T-shaped plan typical of structures built after Catholic Emancipation in 1827, with later additions including a sacristy and a modern single-storey porch. The interior contains Gothic panelled galleries, a four-centered chancel arch, and marble memorial monuments. A medieval font built into the exterior wall may have been taken from the nearby remains of Tristernagh Abbey.
