About Church of St John the Baptist, Whitehall
Church of St John the Baptist, Whitehall was built around 1830. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave and rendered walls. Notable features include stained-glass windows, mosaic work and lancet windows. The church stands in its own graveyard.
The building
The building was renovated c.1970 and probably originally followed a T-plan before adopting its current cruciform layout. A freestanding cast-iron belfry stands to the south, while a cut stone font built into the northern exterior wall was probably taken from an earlier church site. Inside, a monument commemorates Rev. Michael Lynch, who died in 1845.
