About Church of the Assumption, Taghmon

Church of the Assumption, Taghmon was built around 1844. The church has rendered walls under a pitched artificial slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower and stained-glass windows.

History

Originally built as a chapel of ease associated with the Roman Catholic church at Multyfarnham and the parish of Tyfarnham, the structure is unique in Co. Westmeath for combining the church and original parochial house under one roofline. A cut stone plaque on the east face records the dedication in 1844 by A McAlroy. A two-storey extension to the parochial house was added c.1880.
