About Church of St Columba
Church of St Columba was built between 1872 and 1873. It has a simple single-cell form, built of squared stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and buttressed walls.
The building
This detached Catholic church features a rectangular plan with a south-west tower and was dedicated in 1873, though it was apparently completed in 1912. The structure is built of ochre-coloured fieldstone with silver-grey granite dressings, including cut-granite coping and buttresses. Interior elements include an exposed timber roof construction, a choir gallery, and a sanctuary reordered in accordance with liturgical reforms.
