About Carmelite Friary, Kinsale
Carmelite Friary, Kinsale was built around 1840 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
History
The Carmelite order built the church on the site of an earlier Carmelite chapel. Money collected in England financed the project, and the construction work was undertaken as a famine-relief project.
