About Blackrock St Michael (Blackrock)

Blackrock St Michael (Blackrock) was built in 1827. It has a cruciform plan with a four-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower with a spire, stained-glass windows and pinnacles. It was designed by Pain Brothers.

History

Designed by the Pain Brothers, this Church of Ireland church was built in 1827 at a cost of £2,100, with £900 donated by the Board of First Fruits. It served originally as a chapel of ease to St Fin Barre's Cathedral. William Hill repaired the building after a lightning strike in January 1836. The interior contains monuments to local figures, including a memorial to William Beamish sculpted by John Hogan in 1844.
