About Assumption, Coolagh
Assumption, Coolagh dates from 1896. It has a six-bay nave, built of limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows and buttressed walls.
History
The church stands on a corner site in Coolagh that was apparently donated by Mr Paddy Moore of nearby Coolaghmore House. It was built by Michael Kerwic of Callan and superseded an earlier church in the village. The building is attributed to the period of growing confidence and prosperity of the Catholic congregation following Emancipation and the Great Famine.
