About Assumption Church, Rosbercon
Assumption Church, Rosbercon was built between 1951 and 1953. It has a cruciform plan with a nine-bay nave under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained glass including a rose window, an internal gallery and buttressed walls.
The building
Designed in 1950 by Ashlin and Coleman of Dawson Street, Dublin, the church opened in 1954 and was later reordered following the Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican. The interior features a barrel vaulted ceiling with moulded plasterwork ribs, a timber pipe organ, and cut-veined white marble panelled altars, while a rose window was supplied by the Harry Clarke Stained Glass Studios. The building stands in landscaped grounds enclosed by granite piers and wrought iron gates.
