About Abington (Murrhoe)
Abington (Murrhoe) was built in 1869 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a four-bay nave, built of squared limestone. Notable features include a three-stage tower and stained glass including a rose window. It was designed by James Rawson Carroll.
History
Designed by James Rawson Carroll, this Church of Ireland building was financed by donations from Sir Matthew Barrington and Lord Cloncurry. The construction cost £1,100, and the church was opened on 7 November 1870. It represents a development in church architecture, featuring a chancel and porches that distinguish it from earlier Board of First Fruits designs.
