About The Assumption and St James, Claregalway

The Assumption and St James, Claregalway is a Roman Catholic parish church in Claregalway, Co. Galway. It is part of the Galway and Kilmacduagh Diocese.

History

The church was designed by the Dublin architects Robinson, Keefe and Devine, and the builder was J.J. Rhatigan of Milltown. The total cost, including fees and furnishing, was £132,000 (€158,000). The church was opened and dedicated on 15 August 1975.

It was re-roofed in 1992, when the tabernacle was installed and a triptych was provided.

The building

The building is octagonal, its many sides giving it an almost circular shape. The altar, ambo and font are of sparrow-picked limestone, supplied by Top Quarries, Ballinasloe. The Stations of the Cross were cut, made and erected by Dublin Glass & Paint.
