About Star of the Sea Church, Desertegney
Star of the Sea Church, Desertegney was built in 1964. The church has rendered walls. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and mosaic work. It was designed by Liam McCormick.
Notable features
The interior features two lines of tapered mushroom-headed columns and a choir balcony accessed by a timber and metal spiral staircase. The split bell tower contains the bell from the earlier church. The site was chosen for its relationship to the road and Lough Swilly, with the building aligned on a roughly north-south axis. The church was blessed and opened on 23 August 1964 by Bishop Farren.
