History

St Mary's Church was erected in 1859 and is named after the mother of Jesus. It is known as Magherarney, though it stands more accurately in the townland of Templetate. It is one of two churches in the parish of Roslea, the other being St Tierney's Church in Roslea village, erected in 1837 and named after St Tierney, or Tiarnach, of Clones.

The parish lies in two jurisdictions, in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, running from the Slieve Beagh in the north through Roslea village and southwards through Smithborough to the parish of Currin, Killeevan and Aghabog.
