About St. Mary’s, Carnacon
St. Mary’s, Carnacon was built in 1835. It has a cruciform plan with a two-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows and lancet windows.
Notable features
Notable features include lancet "Trinity Windows" with drag-edged cut-limestone surrounds and chamfered reveals, framing storm glazing over fixed-pane fittings with stained glass margins and leaded panels. Segmental-headed transept doorways have diagonal timber-boarded double doors with overlights. The west entrance has a hipped segmental-headed opening in a pointed-arch recess with concrete mullions and sidelights. Grounds contain apparently reclaimed cut-limestone cylindrical piers with fluted capitals and shallow pyramidal capping, supporting cast-iron double gates.
