History
As the Catholic population of the Ards increased through the nineteenth century, parishioners from Kircubbin, Inishargy, Greyabbey and Killyvolgan travelled to the parish church of St Patrick's at Lisbane. A storehouse behind the pharmacy in Kircubbin was used as a temporary chapel; it was owned by Captain Herron, who built the Herron Hall in the village. The present parish of Ardkeen dates from 1866.
The building
The church was closed from February 2011 until October of that year for alterations. Two parochial halls and a house were demolished and the car park was extended. A boiler house and an external toilet were built, and a sloping walkway was laid from the rear entrance, along the back of the church, to the main porch, providing access for disabled visitors. The steps at the front were replaced and the sacristy was re-modelled to give more privacy and space.
