About Inishargie St Andrew (Balligan)
Inishargie St Andrew (Balligan) is a Church of Ireland church in Inishargie, County Down. It is one of the churches in the parish of Ballywalter Holy Trinity, in the Diocese of Down & Dromore.
History
The parish records that Archbishop Beresford intervened in 1844 to save the church from demolition. According to the parish's own history, the roof may have come from an earlier church at Ballyhalbert, its timbers being 50 years older than the building itself.
Notable features
The organ was built in the 1700s and came from England, standing at Kircubbin before it reached Balligan. A tithe box stands in the porch. Eight gravestones are visible in the grounds.
