About St. Mary
St. Mary was built between 1834 and 1840. It has a cruciform plan with a four-bay nave. Notable features include a four-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets.
The building
The detached Gothic-style church comprises a four-bay nave, single-bay transepts, and a chancel. Its south-west elevation displays coursed cut-stone walls with stepped buttresses, quoins, and a pointed-arch doorcase topped by a cross finial. The interior contains a ribbed plaster ceiling, a Gothic-style timber reredos, and louvered fittings that are probably stone, while a c.1840 limestone gateway with iron gates fronts the grounds.
