About Maynooth St Mary
Maynooth St Mary was built in 1859. The church is built of rubble stone. Notable features include a six-stage tower, crenellated parapets, window tracery and buttressed walls.
History
The 1859 church incorporates fabric from an earlier church dated to 1248. Its western tower is recorded as part of Geraldine Castle from about 1450, so medieval ecclesiastical and fortified fabric survives within the later building.
