About St. Joseph’s Church, Castleconnell
St. Joseph’s Church, Castleconnell was built between 1860 and 1870. It has a cruciform plan with a four-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and window tracery.
Notable people
The church was designed by William Edward Corbett, who had previously assisted Philip Hardwick. Richard Fitzgibbon also contributed to the building, and the builder was Ryan of Limerick. The north-west gate pier bears an inscription stating that the railing is the gift of George Peabody Esq.
